Strengthen Compliance and Enforcement within DEP

Strengthen Compliance and Enforcement within DEP

What problem does it solve? It will ensure compliance with authorized activities, reduce potential illegal activities, and increase funds for the State. What is your solution and who does it apply to? Hire more employees, allow for transfers to other programs, and/or allow for compliance inspections. What is the anticipated impact? Decreased illegal activity and increased funding.

Points

I agree that more compliance and enforcement is necessary regarding environmental impact. The NJ Clean Communities Council is an offshoot of DEP that provides townships with grants for cleanups or litter abatement education. The grants are only beneficial, however, if townships are spending the funds appropriately. In cases where they have not, there is no compliance or enforcement measures to pull the funding back for its dedicated purpose.
